The Key To Become Confident: from a fitness coach
I loved hearing the story of Jessenia before social media, and the changes she made in her life to enter this complex social media world.
If you have ever been self-conscious or feel like social media may bring you down sometimes, this is your post.
FROM INSECURE TO A BOSS
Jessenia Tejada became a boss in a matter of one year. Like many females in our society it took her a lot to become confident in her own skin. Jessenia said, “I used to look at myself in the mirror and ask why… Why was I put in this body” our society has accommodated us especially younger females to want to have such a specific body. When Jessenia and I were girls growing up the “it girl” was the skinny Victoria Secret model body type. Nowadays, the goal is a small waist and big booty such as the Kardashians. This makes girls who don’t look like that have doubt on themselves and question why they look normal. “I never even used to take mirror selfies” she said.
“when I started to put my life on Instagram I had so much fear in me, but if I was feeling that way other females are feeling like this as well”. In order to become confident, it takes some work and effort. She did a lot of personal development such as books, podcasts, journals, videos. We cannot live our life in fear of who we are or pleasing others. At the end of the day the things that make us different and we don’t like about ourselves are the things that actually make us unique and special.
SOCIAL MEDIA AND BODY IMAGE
In order to use social media in a healthy manner with everything we see every day we need to have an open mind and “with body image I truly feel like you have to accept and love yourself for who you are… it is easy to go on Instagram and start comparing yourself” and that is the main problem with our society. We tend to do what is easy, not what is healthy or good for you. Jessenia believes that the best way to use social media and not shame yourself is to not spend too much time and give yourself a limit for the personal usage. We all know that the people we see on social media works with its culture that everyone almost takes 20 photos and posts only one.
The best tip Jessenia shared is as she says, “I don’t use social media an hour before going to sleep” which makes her sleep in peace not thinking about anyone else in this world.
FEELING LIKE YOU’RE NOT ENOUGH
Even people who are very confident have their down days. We all sometimes feel like we are not enough but it is a matter of us getting out of that mentality as quickly as possible. When Jesenia feels like this she says that sometimes it is because of “the amount of time we spend on social media” as she says, “that’s when I find myself that I start comparing… so I try to use social media very intentional”. Jessenia makes sure she does not go on social media to judge herself or others but instead she goes to bring a positive attitude to the table. She compared social media for people like her and I which are coaches and our offices are our devices as “going home from your 9 to 5” Sometimes we all just need a mental break from everything, including social media even if that is our job.
STAYING TRUE TO YOURSELF
Businesses, entrepreneurs & influencers on social media sometimes don’t stay true to themselves in order to get likes, followers and are following trends. Jessenia and I do not believe in that. Jessenia said, “I want you to feel when you’re looking at my posts, I don’t want that to be any different than talking to me in person”. The most important thing on social media is being able to stay true to who you are and be unique. For example, “some people think because they don’t have a special talent, they are not unique”. Even if you admire someone else, your story is not the same as someone else’s so you should never try to compare things hand in hand. “with my story I know some people are going to relate to that and others won’t” she said.
With social media you are able to connect with people that think like you, have similarities like you, you are able to find your niche. You are allowed to decide what to see and who to connect to. If you don’t like it get rid of it. In order to be a successful public figure is not about how many followers you have but about how many of those people believe in you and are your people.
STOPPING SELF-SHAMING
For the purpose of stopping self-shaming, you need to get rid of negativity. Jessenia recommends you unfollow anyone that makes you think twice about yourself even if you admire this person until you bring yourself back up and you are able to admire without comparison. The point of social media is to “empower yourself” .
For Jessenia, @iamjbreton and @bossbabe.inc are two pages she loves, and she always sees positive messages and never feels the need to unfollow or get rid of.
